Collage 2015- 2016 Acrylic paint, metalic paint, pencil, 30x30cm / 24x34cm / 30x38cm The fictional planet “Sitara” in Karl May’s later work served as the title of this work on paper, a research piece on the meaning of the First World War in the visual context of today (see “Journey to the end of the night”/”Happy Birthday”). The central thesis being that the cataclysmic events of First World War created a historic break with the tradition of mythologizing war, and all history, in a cathartic context. The images utilized extend from early Christian adaptation of Celtic symbols to gothic sculpture and architecture, industrialization, exoticism and Indianism of the 1960s of a divided Germany, to the Cyborg as the current manifestation for the inspiration of mythological potential.
