The landscape of Salento is purely cultural. People have lived in it and changed it since time immemorial. Nature has been cultivated and domesticated. Christian self-image and mythology assign it only a minor role in the world of human life. Nevertheless, plants and animals shape the image of Salento. The two series presented here portray the man-made landscape and various animals as respective familiars. This local spirit could recharge the places and landscape in their original form beyond Christian dogma. Pier Paolo Pasolini also liked to speak of remythologisation. At least allegorically, the artist attempts to return to animism as the root of all religion.
