Kaya Negri: Anime Gemelle

In Kaya Negri‘s colourful paintings, her human-like animal creatures arise from her deep connection to them. She, too, has Donna Haraway‘s definition of the critter, i.e. a universally interconnected existence, in mind when he gives free rein to his painterly storytelling. That is why it does not matter whether mammals, insects or pure invention are the inspiration. What is more important is that the creatures, with their aesthetics reminiscent of the world of comics and graffiti, embody a self-confident zest for life and humour in their otherness.
