Eden Pravo: Entite cosmiche

The artist asks, why Trecento painting seems closer to our time than, for example, the modernism of the past century. In Trecento painting, religious figures in particular were portrayed as idealised, superhuman beings who embodied goodness, suffered and performed miracles. Today, the superheroes of Marvel and DC have taken their place in the battle between good and evil. The spatial invention of their world landscapes is also subordinate to the symbolic narrative. The emotional attachment and cult-like worship of the audience for the protagonists of these mythological spaces is also comparable. The religious painting of the Trecento and the pop culture worlds of Marvel & DC tell of values, fears and hopes in their respective forms. As icons, they are intended to entertain the audience and reach them emotionally and morally.
